I think because they either smell bad, or because they have lost their sense of smell. An old lady and her husband have started sitting in front of me at church, the smell is so strong I may start sitting elsewhere. And, to a Methodist changing seats is unknown.

Well, smell is one of the things that can turn a person on, and since old ladies don't have much else they have to double, triple, or even quadruple up on what they do have. I think about doing it sometimes just to keep people away from me. Maybe old ladies do it to keep from getting mugged or something. I don't know.

I think that Tom has it.  It's that their sense of smell is lessened.  I also think that since they prefer scents that are no longer trendy; their choice of scent might be more disliked by someone else than they think it would be.
